Kandinsky's interest in folk culture can be seen through his depiction of fairy tale subject matter and Bavarian folk art techniques. White Cloud is reminiscent of a number of paintings completed on dark paper by Kandinsky between 1901 and 1908, which he referred to as "farbige Zeichnungen" or "colored drawings."
